In July 2008, America's Health Insurance Plans' (AHIP) Center for Policy and Research launched a comprehensive study of financial activity in health savings accounts (HSAs). Five large bank trustees of HSAs provided de-identifed data, which were blinded and aggregated into a combined database of more than 1.1 million HSA accounts open as of June 30, 2008. It reports on the number of new accounts, the age distribution of current accountholders, and the sources and amounts of deposits for accounts opened in different years.
